December is the first month of winter and twelfth and last month of the Julian and Gregorian calendars. In addition, December is the tenth month of Ancient Roman calendar. Also, December has the length of 31 days and December is the seventh and the last of seven months which have a length of 31 days.

 

December contains the winter solstice in the Northern Hemisphere, the day with the least sunshine hours, and the mid-year solstice in the Southern Hemisphere, the day with the lightest hours (barring polar areas in the two cases). December in the Northern Hemisphere is the regular proportionate to June in the Southern Hemisphere and the other way around. In the Northern side of the equator, the start of the galactic winter is generally 21 December or the date of the solstice.

 

Moreover, as December contains Christmas it is a significant month for Christianism. In Christmas on 25th December Christians celebrate the born of the Jesus. It lasts for one week. Therefore, December is the month of Advent of Christ. Also, in United States December is the month of National Egg, National Fruit Cake, National Pear and No gender. December has the signs of the zodiac of Capricorn and Sagittarius.
